Established in 1922, Merritts has evolved from its humble beginnings as a coal delivery business into the market leading enterprise it is today. Continual investment in market leading equipment, vehicles and high calibre personnel has provided the company with a solid platform for future development.

1922

Joseph Merritt buys a small coal delivery business in Nottingham.

1930s

The company acquires its first motorised vehicle, a Ford Model-T.

1940s

Joseph Merritt & Son undertakes its first industrial removal jobs.

1966

A lorry-mounted crane is purchased by Ken Merritt, the first of its kind to be powered by an auxiliary engine.

1974

The company was incorporated as Joseph Merritt & Son Limited.

1990s

In response to the economic recession, Merritts embark on a program of diversification to include expansion of services into on-site engineering and industrial training.

Present Day

The company continues to thrive as a leading force in machinery relocations; celebrating more than 95 years in the business and passing into the hands of the fourth generation of management under brothers, James and Richard Merritt.

Merritts site team consists of SSSTS trained foremen, riggers, drivers, crane operators and electrical & mechanical engineering specialists. All operatives undertake an on-going training and development program

All equipment undergoes regular and stringent maintenance, inspection and testing procedures, meeting both LOLER and PUWER standards.
